Herb Garden

With the weather taking a turn for the worse I didn’t do much in the garden today. I’ve knocked together the frame for what will become next years herb garden.

Luckily we can fill it with all the turf we cut out to make our flower beds, so no need to buy any topsoil.

Garden canes…..

Everywhere is having their sales on garden stuff they want to get rid off before they pile the shops high with Christmas goods. Anyone with a Wilkinsons near may want to check out their garden canes. They had been selling five 2.8metre canes for £1.50 and they are now going for 25p.

Plastic bags and plums

The decision by the Lib Dems to announce a 5p charge for plastic bags amuses me somewhat. Why? Well because as environmental issues go there are far more important ones. If people think plastic bags are an issue with regards waste streams they are wrong. They make up a minuscule amount of what goes to landfill. Disposable nappies on the other hand make up to 6% of what goes to landfill. Anyone want to suggest taxing them to high heaven.

Then we could talk CO2.

So in the photo below I’m a bad person for using one of those evil plastic bags to collect over 5kg of plums. But hey….. Lets all feel virtuous using a bag for life, when we buy products shipped thousands of miles. Which is doing more damage I wonder.

Onions

September 14th and 250 onions just gone in along with a few garlic. Decided to leave the dahlias in the corner. Lets see how many the pigeons pull out, and how long before the nettles take over again!
